What's Hot: Great protection, ergonomic, has a stand.

What's Not: No direct protection for the screen.

For mobile device users who need more than just a surface protection, the Case-Mate Pop! Case for the BlackBerry PlayBook provides additional protection without adding too much bulk. The Pop! Case is form fitting and comfortable to hold. It also has a built-in stand that can pop up your tablet for multimedia viewing and video chatting. Your tablet is also very functional while in the case as all ports are accessible and buttons are usable.

Design

The Case-Mate Pop! Case has two layer of protection: a silicone layer molded into an ABS plastic layer. Unlike some more rugged cases, the Case-Mate Pop! case is in one piece and doesn't require you to put it on in layers. The plastic layer does have some flexibility so that it?s not too difficult to put the case on and take it off of the BlackBerry PlayBook. The hard plastic layer covers the back of the tablet and around the top and bottom as well as corners to absorb shock to the structure, leaving out the sides covered by the silicone layer. The silicone sides have a dimpled texture that makes it a lot easier to hold the BlackBerry PlayBook in your hands. All ports on the bottom of the PlayBook are exposed through a large cutout, making it easier to sync and charge. Top buttons on the tablet are also accessible but they are under a layer of silicone protection. These buttons are laser etched to line up with tablet?s buttons perfectly.

One very important feature built into the Case-Mate Pop! Case is the pop-up stand that can position your tablet in either portrait or landscape orientation. The stand is also made of sturdy plastic and has rubber feet that prevent the tablet from slipping on a smooth surface. The stand folds up and sits flush with the back of the case, adding no additional bulk to the case; and when you need to use it, pop it out to up to 45-degree angle. The Case-Mate Pop! Case wraps around the front edges of the screen so that when you put the tablet face down, the tablet rests on the case instead of the display.

The Case-Mate Pop! Case is available in two-toned 3 color combos: black back with grey silicone, white back with grey silicone and pink with grey silicone.

Size and Fit

The Case-Mate Pop! Case does add some thickness to the BlackBerry PlayBook but it doesn?t look bulky. The case measures 7.87 x 5.27 x 0.71 and weighs 5.5 oz.

Conclusion

The Case-Mate Pop! Case for the BlackBerry PlayBook has good ergonomics and provides great protection to the tablet?s structure, back and sides. It?s durable yet not very bulky and thick. The side grips are a very nice touch and help prevent the tablet from slipping out of your hands. BlackBerry PlayBook users who watch videos and make video calls will love the built-in stand that works in either orientation. All ports are accessible and all in all it?s a well designed and well built case.
