iPad 2 Case Review: Belkin Flip Folio Stand for iPad 2

What's Hot: Serious protection under a subtle and professional outfit, excellent stand, and super soft lining.

What's Not: Some cutouts aren't aligned perfectly, adds some bulk and weight.

The Belkin Flip Folio Stand for iPad 2 case is a portfolio case with built-in stand. We've seen several portfolio cases for the iPad 2 that have a stand built into the cover, but the Belkin Flip Folio Stand is the most secure one we?ve seen. The Belkin Flip Folio Stand is a very protective case with two layers of material and strong inserts. The case has a clean and modern look, but it isn?t slim or light. The Belkin Flip Folio Stand comes in two colors: black and purple.

Design

The Belkin Flip Folio Stand for iPad 2 Case has soft faux leather like surface that looks subtle and feels nice in hand. The case has some serious inserts that are rigid and protect both the display and the back of the tablet. Inside the case has a layer of soft microsuede lining that feels very smooth and won?t scratch your iPad 2. The Belkin Flip Folio Stand case has a secure pocket for you to store the tablet with the portfolio cover and the built-in stand attached to the tablet pocket. Thanks to this design, you can swing the iPad 2 out and prop it up in many angles. The case has 6 groups of tracks and this means you can prop up the tablet from roughly 20-80 degrees; and that?s not all. The pocket for the tablet has a rigid edge on the left side, and this means when you prop up the iPad 2 in landscape orientation, this rigid edge can securely lock into one of the tracks and stand your tablet up very steadily on the case. The case doesn?t stand the tablet in portrait orientation.

Beyond the design, the case has a solid built and sturdy stitching. Almost the entire iPad 2 has two layers of protection and feels like it?s in a grey (the black looks more grey than true black) armor. And to make sure the case is securely closed, the Belkin Flip Folio Stand has an elastic band that wraps around from the back to shut the cover securely. With all this protection, your iPad 2 can certainly survive the bumps and bruises in a backpack or large bag full of other gear. The price you pay for the satisfaction of knowing your iPad 2 won?t be harmed during a plane or train ride or a hiking trip is the added bulk and weight, though this isn?t exactly an OtterBox either. The Belkin Flip Folio Stand for iPad 2 weights 11.4 oz.

Features

The Belkin Flip Folio Stand for iPad 2 has cutouts for the buttons and ports on the tablet, but some of the cutouts don?t have the perfect alignments. The cutouts for the 30-pin connector, the side buttons and the camera has perfect alignments, but the cutouts for the top button (power button), the mic and the headset jack are a bit off. You can still use the button and your headset, it just takes a bit of effort to use them. The case also has speaker grill cutout and sound from the iPad 2 doesn?t lose much volume or clarity while playing through the case.

On the front, the Belkin Flip Folio Stand has only a cutout for the top camera and senor but covers the Home button and it takes a bit of effort also to press the Home button under the cover.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a professional looking case for the office or to use on trips, the Belkin Flip Folio Stand for iPad 2 provides excellent protection yet has a subtle and clean look. The case has sturdy material, durable construction and very soft lining. The case?s built-in stand is excellent and can keep your iPad 2 very steady while you are watching a movie or making a video call. The case has cutouts for buttons and ports, but the top cutouts aren?t perfectly aligned with the hardware and the Home button is a little hard to operate under the cover. The case also adds some bulk and 11.4 oz. weight to the slim iPad 2.
