What's Hot: If you regularly use your iPad 2 in the absence of a flat surface, this is the case for you. The flip-out handle lets you get a secure grip, prop it on its side, or even hang it vertically.
What's Not: Minimalist design may deter those seeking more substantial protection.
Speck's HandyShell case is truly a one-of-a-kind product. The flip-out handle lets you keep a secure one-handed grip on your iPad 2, prop it up in either landscape or portrait mode, or even hang it vertically if you feel comfortable doing that.
Size and Fit
The HandyShell case fits your iPad 2 securely yet allows full access to ports and controls. Its minimalist design means it doesn?t add a lot of weight; a vitally important feature if you are in the market for a case like this. While it only provides moderate scratch/bump/scuff protection for your device, this is an acceptable tradeoff considering how heavy even the iPad 2 can get when holding it with one hand.
Features and Quality
The HandyShell?s claim to fame is the flip out handle. This single feature is incredibly versatile, allowing you to securely grip your iPad 2 with one hand while you operate it with another. It also allows you to prop your tablet on its side (horizontally or vertically), and even hang it vertically (assuming you have a hook or nail that you are willing to trust with your $500+ device). Although the case itself sports a minimalist design, it has a very substantial feel to it. The plastic is much thicker than most and all the cutouts are perfectly placed. Most importantly, however, the hinge that supports the handle is very solid.
This case is not big on style, opting instead for functionality. In fact, it?s available only in a single color (grey), and the most stylish thing about it is the box.
The Speck HandyShell Case may not be big on style, but it?s highly innovative flip-out handle makes it big on substance. If you use your iPad 2 while standing or walking this is the case for you. The handle is highly versatile, allowing you to prop your iPad 2 on its side (landscape or portrait), or even hang it.
