What's Hot: A very unique design, protective, and functional.

What's Not: Looses its shape quickly.

Some case makers make a few case models for the iPhone 4 and call it a day. But for prolific case maker, Case-mate, inspiration comes from everything and everywhere. The Case-mate iPhone 4 Coliseum case is unlike any other case we've seen. This iPhone 4 case is inspired by the ancient Roman structure, made in silicone and creates a unique 3D look and fell. It protects the back and sides of your iPhone 4 and comes in black and grey.

Design

The Case-mate iPhone 4 Coliseum case is made with smooth silicone and form fitting for the iPhone 4. The silicone case looks like just another case for the iPhone 4 in the front, but when you turn it over, the back of the case looks like no other. Like its name, the iPhone 4 case models after the Roman coliseum with cut-out holes that resemble the look of the legendary structure, complete with a bump that resembles the curved fa?ade of a coliseum. That?s right, the case doesn?t have a flat back, it has a small hump in the back that also helps absorb more shock as well as create the illusion of 3D visually.

The shape of the Case-mate Coliseum case for the iPhone 4 gives it a unique look, and the curve on the back actually feels ergonomic in your hand when you use the phone to make calls. The case comes in either black or gray, and in each version, the case is decorated with a red stripe on the back and red button accents on the side and top. As with other Case-mate silicone cases, such as the [urlhttp://www.mobiletechreview.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Number=40690]Case-mae Vroom Case for iPhone 4[/url], the Coliseum case wraps around the iPhone 4 from the back and covers the edges of the phone on the front, so that when you put the iPhone 4 face down on a table, the case touches the surface instead of the display.

Features
The Case-mate iPhone 4 Coliseum case has a large cutout on the bottom to give the speaker grill and 30-pin connector open access. The cutout also allows you to use the iPhone 4 with most docking stations and audio speakers while in the case. The cutout for the silence button is big enough to accommodate both the Verizon and AT&T versions of the iPhone 4. The case has cutouts for the rear camera and flash as well as the audio out jack. The power button and the volume buttons are under raised covers and they are very easy to use, though the volume buttons might be a bit too easy to press accidently.

The Case-mate Coliseum case is very functional and while the silicone surface is very smooth, the cutout holes on the back give the case some 3D texture that helps with the grip. The only concern we have for the Coliseum case is the silicone form doesn?t stay tight for long. It stretches out with use, and the front edges start to get loose and pull away.

Conclusion

You won?t find another case quite like this, the Case-mate iPhone 4 Coliseum case has a very unique 3D texture design that gives it character. The case is protective with the added thickness from bump on the back, and it has nice cutouts and covers for ports and buttons. The case is very functional and works with many docking stations and speakers. The only thing to watch out for is the lost of form that many silicone cases surfer.
