What's Hot: Very unique and eye-catching design, very functional with cutouts, beautiful colors.
What's Not: Not for users who need more protection for phone's surface, metal edges need more smoothing.
id America is a small New York-based case maker that draws inspiration from daily life in a big city. Their iPhone 4 cases have fun and chic designs that reflect urban and minimalism styles in their collection, such as Skyline thermoplastic case, Cushi Stripe foam pad, etc. But the most eye-catching design from id America is perhaps the Gasket Case for iPhone 4 that resembles, you know it, a head gasket on a car engine. This masculine design gives the case an iconic look, and it comes in 5 metallic colors: Aluminum Silver, Vintage Gold, Modern Bronze, Titanium Gray and Jet Black.
The id America Gasket case for iPhone 4 is made with brushed aluminum and coated with smooth exterior coating. The case has suede lining so that it won?t scratch your iPhone 4?s surface when you put it in or take it out of the case. The structural support of the id America Gasket case is solid thanks to the metal casing, though the case covers minimal amount of the iPhone 4?s surface. Luckily the case comes with two protective films, one for the front and one for the back. So light scratches from small items such as keys won?t penetrate through the film even if it pokes the phone via the holes in the case.
The id America Gasket case for iPhone 4 is form fitting, and holds the iPhone 4 securely. To put your iPhone 4 into the case, slide it first into the right side, and then push the left side into the case. While the construction is solid on the Gasket case, the workmanship isn?t perfect. On our case, some of the cuts on the metal edges aren?t smoothed out and feel a bit sharp if you run your fingers over them. One of the corner edges is sticking out a little bit, so it actually can poke your finger pretty hard. Again, these aren?t design flaws, perhaps just need a little more QA.
The id America Gasket case for iPhone 4 comes in awesome colors. All 5 colors are great choices for an aluminum case yet each has its own unique look at resembling a different metal.
The id America Gasket case for iPhone 4 has many cutouts by design to give the case the look of head gasket, and it also has large cutouts for functions. The case has cutouts in the same length for both top and bottom of the iPhone 4, exposing the 30-pin connector, speaker and mic on the bottom as well as the power button, mic and audio out jack on top of the phone. The right side of the case has no cutout and bears the ?id America? logo. The left side of the case has a large cutout that leaves the silence slider (for both AT&T and Verizon versions) and the volume buttons exposed for easy access. The id America Gasket case for iPhone 4 has many cutouts on the back, and the cutout for the rear camera and flash blends right in as if it?s a part of the design. Very nice!
The id America Gasket case for iPhone 4 comes with two protector films that cover the entire front and back of the iPhone 4. These films also have cutouts on them: the back film has a cutout for the rear camera and flash; the front film has cutouts for the earpiece, front camera and Home button. The protector films are more robust than the usual screen protectors and the case comes with an installation kit for the films.
It?s safe to say that you won?t find another iPhone 4 case looks quite like the id America Gasket. We love the artistic design, the solid aluminum construction, the awesome 5 metallic colors and the nice cutouts on this case. It will certainly turn heads and catch people?s eyes when you use your iPhone 4, and you really can?t go wrong with any of the 5 colors. The thick protective films are a nice touch, and the case is very slim and weighs less than an ounce. While the look is no doubt the biggest attraction, the id America Gasket case isn?t super protective if you put your phone through more than just daily use in and out of your pocket. The quality control could be better also, especially for smoothing the sharp metal edges.
