What's Hot: Extra padding, awesome designs, and good quality adhesive.

What's Not: Should have some pieces for the front of the phone.

Putting skins on the iPhone 4 prevents scratches and nicks from small objects like keys or pens to your phone. But id America took the idea further with padded soft foam that uses no-residue adhesive for added shock absorption. The Cushi Soft Foam Pad uses EVA foam material and the same adhesive you find on most iPhone 4 skins to protect the phone's back. And like skins, the Cushi foam pad comes in many graphic designs like the Cushi Stripe, Cushi Dot and Cushi Original which includes four cool images. We look at the unique Cushi Robotics Soft Foam Pad for this review.

Design

Printing images on skins is cool, but creating 3D sculptured images is even cooler. The Cushi Robotics Soft Foam Pad is a very expandable platform on which many shapes and image can come alive. The EVA foam is cushy and soft, the surface is grippy and easy to handle. The Cushi foam pad shows bright colors and you can clean it when it gets dirty. The Cushi Robotics comes in three colors, red, black and white, though they are called Type-R, Type-C and Type-B in the robotic lingo.

The Cushi Robotics Soft Foam Pad covers the back of the iPhone 4 with a cutout for the camera and flash. The package also comes with 6 foam dots with adhesive for you to decorate the Home button on the front, and a thick protective film for the front of the iPhone 4.

Features

The Cushi Robotics Soft Foam Pad for iPhone 4 feels more protective than any skin we?ve seen. The extra padding also feels soft in hand when you use the phone. The rear camera cutout is just big enough, though we wish the cutout were a bit bigger as the precise cut means you have to line up the foam pad perfectly. The adhesive leaves no residue on your iPhone 4 after you take the Cushi off, and the adhesive is more robust than the ones we?ve seen on skins also and can be used multiple times without losing most of its strength. The small padded dot for the Home button is also handy as it makes using the Home button much easier.

While the Cushi Robotics Soft Foam Pad gives pretty good protection for the back of the iPhone 4, the front and sides of the phone are exposed save for the protective film for the front. If you are using a bumper case, you might like the Cushi foam back protection. We wish there were some foam pieces for the front as well, like most skins that offer front pieces, otherwise the front of the iPhone 4 feels naked and less protected.

Conclusion

If you like skins but wish to have more protection, the Cushi Robotics Soft Foam Pad for iPhone 4 gives you some extra padding. It has very unique designs and graphics, and it?s super easy to use and reuse. The foam pad is perfect to use with a bumper case and the package comes with a thick protective film for the front of the iPhone 4. We wish there were some padded pieces to protect the front of the iPhone 4.
