The HP EliteBook series of Windows convertible tablets have been synonymous with quality, no-compromise features and high price tags. The latest iteration, the EliteBook 2760p, is more affordable (it starts at $1,379) but it still packs all the features you'd expect in a 15" notebook into a 12.1" package. The EliteBook can operate as a tablet with the display swiveled flat against the keyboard deck, or you can use it as a traditional notebook.
The hinge is massive and strong, the body meets several mil spec standards and is re-enforced with metal. This is not a consumer notebook; rather it's a business tablet with features that match business needs. That doesn't mean you can't buy one as a consumer: it means that the EliteBook isn't a super-slim, glossy screen tablet with the looks many consumers crave.
The tablet has a Wacom digitizer with an active pen that's excellent for drawing with pressure sensitivity, note-taking and working with electronic forms. It's also a touch screen, though we found a bit harder to control than our Asus Eee Slate EP121. This is a bright, matte display-- we wish every tablet had a matte display. The tablet weighs 4 pounds, so you likely won't be using it on your arm for extended periods of time.
It has a full Intel Core i5 second gen CPU, and ours came with the 2.6GHz i5-2540M CPU. It uses Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics, and that's fine since this isn't meant to be a gaming notebook. It can handle productivity, business apps, Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter perfectly well. The machine has 4 gigs of DDR3 RAM and a 320 gig 7200RPM SATA II hard drive. For a 12" machine it has a wealth of ports: 3 USB 2.0 ports (one sleep and charge), FireWire, VGA, Ethernet, RJ11 modem, headphone-mic, an SD card slot, Express Card /34 slot and a smart card reader.
The tablet has a 6 cell battery, and you can buy a very thin battery sheet that adds another 6 cells. HP sells a docking station with port replicator as well. These lock together firmly and easily with none of the wonkiness of first gen HP Envy 15 notebooks.
