What's Hot: Very cool fall design, two-layer of protection.

What's Not: Slippery surface.

We have neither the inclination nor the stomach to hunt, but for the real hunters or for those who like to dress their devices in fatigue fashion, the Case-mate Realtree Camo cases are designed to fit their style. This double layer case provides very good protection for the iPhone 4S or iPhone 4, and it's easy to use. The Realtree Camo series comes in a large collection of designs and colors. In addition to camo colors with animal profiles, such as turkey, bear, deer and duck, the series also have designs featuring fall tree graphics in pink, blue (Aqua), white (Snow) and orange (Blaze) colors.

Design

The Case-mate Realtree Camo cases have two layers of protection. A thin silicone case covers the iPhone 4S on the inside, and a rigid plastic case covers the back, the sides and four covers on the outside. These two layers work very well together to protect the phone from scratches and bumps as well as shock should you drop the phone. The silicone case is very smooth and works well as the interior layer of protection. The silicone layer also wraps around the phone and covers the front edges of the display to create a barrier and protect the screen when you put the phone face down. The hard cover isnít very thick, but itís rigid. It wonít protect your phone from an arrow, but it will from bumps and nix made by other gear in your bag or backpack.

While hunters might gravitate toward the camouflage-like designs in the series, the rest of us can enjoy the nature scenes on the other Realtree designs such as the APC, APB and APS models in the series. The case is form fitting for the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4, and itís very easy to put it on and take it off thanks to the two-layer design. You will not scratch the surface of your phone when working with the case. As with most Case-mate cases, the Realtree Camo cases comes with a film protector to cover the entire front of the iPhone 4S with cutouts for audio holes and the Home button.

Features

The Case-mate Realtree Camo case has all the cutouts for you to access the iPhone 4S while in the case. The silicone layer covers all four sides of the iPhone 4S with a cutout on top of the phone for the 3.5mm audio jack but keeps the power button under the cover. Itís quite easy to use the power button even when you are wearing gloves with thin or medium thickness. The case has a side cutout for the silence button that can accommodate both versions of the iPhone 4 as well as the iPhone 4S, but you will likely need to take your glove off to use the slider while the phone is in this case. The volume buttons are under the silicone cover, but they are raised and easy to use.

The Case-mate Realtree Camo case has a large cutout to expose the 30-pin connector, mic and speaker on the bottom of the phone. And since the hard plastic cover leaves most of the top and bottom of the iPhone 4S open, it doesnít get in the way of your using any ports or buttons. However, it does add some distance between the 30-connector port and docking station or audio system dock, and this means you can only use docking stations or speaker/alarm system with some extra space near the dock to accommodate the case, unless you want to take the phone out of the case when you charge or sync it. The Case-mate Realtree Camo case has a very generous cutout on the back for the camera and flash, so no need to worry about the edge of the cutout blocking the full angle of the flash.

While the cutouts make the Realtree Camo case quite functional, the surface of the hard plastic might turn some users off. The plastic cover is very shiny and slippery. It feels slippery in hands and when working with gloves that have smooth surface. If you are wearing gloves with grippy surface then this shouldnít cause any problem. Another small issue with the shiny surface is that it might reflect the sunlight a bit.

Conclusion

The Case-mate Realtree Camo series cases have unique graphics that match the fall season and huntersí fashion. The case provides good protection and is easy to put on or take off. The cutouts make the case quite functional and we really like the variety in design. We only wish the sides of the case had a better grip.
