What's Hot: Slim, stylish and functional.

What's Not: Adhesive pad holding the iPhone 4/4S in place might turn some people off.

RJR Fashion is a mobile accessory maker in the US with a manufacturing plant in South Korea. They have created a new brand for their premium cases and mobile accessories called TORU. They currently offer several iPhone 4/4S case models and a display protector, and several iPad 2 cases under that brand. We look at their Saffiano Booklet case for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. The Toru Saffiano Booklet case comes in black, blue and white.

Design

The TORU Saffiano Booklet iPhone 4S case is made with bicast leather (PU leather, not 100% real leather) and comes in Saffiano pattern made famous by brands such as Prada and Banana Republic with their Italian leather handbags. For those who don't want to pay high prices for their iPhone 4/4S cases, the Toru Saffiano Booklet case offers the look and feel of a premium leather case and the price of a PU leather case. The Blue Saffiano Booklet case has a small TORU logo embossed in the lower right corner, and a magnetic closure tab with "T" branding. There is a small charm holder or purse hook holder hole on the side of the case.

The TORU Saffiano Booklet case has a soft "T" patterned interior lining to ensure that it won't scratch your iPhone while it's in the case. Unlike most cases we've seen for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, the Toru case keeps your phone in the case via an adhesive gel pad. The adhesive pad is an interesting design choice, as besides those users who don't like using adhesive on their phones, there are several common questions about using adhesive on your devices. First of all, the adhesive pad on the Toru case doesn't leave any residue on your iPhone 4S. It's also strong enough to hold the phone in place securely, your phone definitely won't fall off of the adhesive pad easily. While the adhesive pad is reusable, it will lose its strength with use. The only real concern is the pressure on the phone when you take it off of the strong adhesive pad as you need to use force to peel it off.

Features

The TORU Saffiano Booklet iPhone 4/4S case has a very functional design and well placed cutouts. Since it's a booklet style case and uses adhesive to hold the iPhone 4S, the case leaves all the side buttons, top and bottom ports and buttons open for easy access. It even has a cutout for the earpiece in the front, so that you can take a call without opening the case. On the back, the Toru case has a perfect cutout for the rear camera and flash, just make sure when you position the phone on the adhesive pad, you line up the cutout with the camera as there isn't much spare room to play with there. The case also has a cutout for the Apple logo on the back.

Conclusion

The TORU Saffiano Booklet iPhone 4S Case is a slim and light (weighs only 0.8 oz) case that looks stylish and unique. The case has a nice texture that makes it easy to handle the phone. It's protective against scratches, pokes and bumps, and it covers both the front and back of the iPhone 4S. We like the color choices and affordable price. The only thing that might turn some users off is the adhesive pad that holds the iPhone 4S in place and the pressure it might add to your phone when you pry it off of the strong adhesive pad, though it's secure enough to hold the phone and doesn't leave any residue.
