Moshi makes several accessories for the MacBook notebooks, iPad and iPhone models. Their most popular product is the iVisor screen protectors, but they've recently released the Concerti case for the new iPad 3rd gen that catches quite a bit of attention. The case has a unique design: it combines a soft silicone inner case that holds the tablet, and a portfolio style faux leather outer cover together to provide protection and functionality for the new iPad. The concerti case from Moshi comes in three colors including Tyrian Purple, Falcon Gray and Metro Black.

Design

The Moshi Concerti Case for the new iPad 3rd Gen has an interesting design. It holds your new iPad in a silicone shell case that isn't so different from other silicone shell cases, but the uncommon feature here is the silicone case is attached to a much sturdier portfolio case. The silicone case is soft, light and very easy to put on or take off of the new iPad. The portfolio case however is thicker with strong faux leather exterior with some texturing, soft microfiber lining and a good amount of inserts that keep the case rigid. The silicone case attaches to the portfolio case on the left securely, and since the other half isn't attached, you can swing the tablet to stand on the lining inside of the front cover.

The silicone case handles all the access to the tablet, and gives the Moshi Concerti Case a very clean look, as the exterior portfolio case doesn't have any cutouts that break the lines. The case isn't slim thanks to the two layers of cases combo, and it weighs 13.6 ounces. The faux leather finish has interesting patterns with a small Moshi logo badge in the center edge. One thing that's different with the Moshi Concerti is that it opens from left to right as the silicone case is located on the left side of the portfolio case. The display cover has a built-in magnetic closure that works very well at auto turning the screen on and off.

Features

The Moshi Concerti Case for the new iPad 3rd Gen hides quite a few surprises that make using the iPad easier while in the case. The silicone shell has all the necessary cutouts and raised buttons covering the device's buttons. The case has cutouts on top of the new iPad to expose the 3.5mm audio jack and the top mic; and the audio jack cutout has a nice tapper following the tapper of the iPad. You should have no trouble using any headphones via the cutout. The power button is under the silicone cover but the raised piece over the button makes it easy to press it. The Moshi Concerti Case has one side cutout for the screen lock button, but covers the volume button with two raised silicone pieces. The case has perfect cutouts for the 30-pin connector and the rear camera, and a large cutout on back leaves out the speaker to let audio through. The silicone case also covers some of the front bezel which comes in handy when you need to use the tablet in a standing position. And the front camera, sensor and the Home button are easily accessible thanks to the semi-circle cutouts in the silicone cover.

The Moshi Concerti Case offers several ways to position or hold your new iPad. The case has a built-in stand where you can swing the silicone case to stand on the front cover. The silicone and the Terahedron microfiber lining on the interior of the front cover work well together to create friction and can hold the new iPad in several viewing angles but not beyond roughly 45-degrees. The front cover has an elastic strap that works like a stop for the stand, but it can also hold the tablet to the back of the headrest on your car seat. Another neat hidden feature in the front cover is a hand strap that you can hold the tablet with. And when you fold the front cover back and use the hand strap to hold the tablet, you can wrap the elastic band around the tablet to the front cover, helping you hold the tablet easily.

Conclusion

The Moshi Concerti Case for the new iPad 3rd Gen is an impressive case with a very unique design. It looks clean and provides good protection against any scratches, bumps and nicks as it covers the entire tablet. The case has cutouts on the inner case, and the stand and the hidden hand strap come in very handy for holding the tablet in your hand, on a table or even on the back of a car seat. The color options aren't that many but the current exterior colors all have interesting patterns. The case does add some bulk and weight thanks to the double case protection, and the microfiber lining does tend to attract lint, pet hairs and dirt.
