Asus Taichi, Transformer Book, Tablet 600 and 810 Get Official

Asus has made their new Windows 8 tablets official, and we've got four interesting models to look forward to. When will these be out? There's no date yet, but their release is tied to Windows 8's release, so we'd expect late fall of this year. Of course, we're still waiting for the long ago announced Transformer Infinity 700 and PadFone, so take that with a grain of salt.

Asus Taichi

First up with have the very interesting Asus Taichi, which has to be Asus's response to Lenovo's Yoga flip-screen convertible. Even more interesting is the Taichi's two displays, one on each side of the display section. Rather than rotating and flipping the display to change from laptop to slate mode, you simply close the notebook's lid. In terms of added expense and reduced durability, I'm not sure this intriguing design is actually a good idea.

Both 11.6" and 13.3" models have a double-sided LED-backlit IPS/FHD multi-touch display, and when you lift the lid you've got a standard notebook form factor (the display output switches to the inner display). Even more interesting is that the two screens are completely independent of each other and can also be used simultaneously, which means the Taichi can be shared (assuming software support). The Taichi is as thin and light as a Zenbook Ultrabook, and it will be available with 3rd generation Intel Core(TM) processors, SSD storage and dual band 802.11n Wi-Fi.

Asus Transformer Book

Like the Asus Transformer Pad design but want it in a Windows 8 convertible tablet? Asus has you covered with three different models. The Transformer Book is an Intel x86 full Windows PC with a third generation Intel Ivy Bridge Core i7 CPU and dedicated graphics. It has an IPS multi-touch display.

The Transformer Book will ship with SSD and HDD storage, 4GB DDR3 dual channel RAM, and USB 3.0. It also features ASUS SonicMaster audio and integrated speakers. The Transformer Book sports dual cameras, with a HD front-facing camera and a 5MP rear-facing camera making it perfect for both photo-taking and video chats.

This lightweight ultraportable will be available with an 11.6", 13" or 14" Full HD IPS display with multi-touch capabilities. This can be detached from the QWERTY keyboard to create a highly portable tablet.

Asus Tablet 810

Intel Atom CPUs are back, and with Windows 8 relatively low hardware requirements, they might not be as painfully slow as on Windows 7. The 810 features a next generation Atom CPU with 2GB RAM and a 64GB eMMC (embedded multimedia card) for user storage. The supplied mobile dock transforms the tablet into a compact clamshell ultraportable, complete with full QWERTY keyboard, track pad, two USB ports and second battery for extended use away from a power socket.

The 11.6" display with 1366 x 768 resolution uses Super IPS+ technolog, much like the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Android tablet. It supports10-point multi-touch and it has a Wacom digitizer stylus support for a more natural writing experience. The 8.7mm thick Tablet 810 has ASUS SonicMaster audio and an 8 megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, along with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chats. It also features a built-in NFC sensor, enabling the device to easily sync with other NFC-enabled devices.

Asus Tablet 600

Last but not least, we have Asus' Windows 8 RT tablet running on an ARM compatible CPU (the CPU family used in most smartphones and tablets). The tablet runs on the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core CPU just like recent Android tablets, and it has 2 gigs of RAM and a 32 gig eMMC for storage.

The 600 also has the same Transformer design as the 810 and is supplied with its own mobile dock that provides a QWERTY keyboard, track pad, USB port and second battery. The Super IPS+ display measures 10.1" display with 1366 x 768 resolution. The 600 has the same front and rear cameras as the 810, and it also features NFC.
