Looking to get a new tablet, but undecided between these. I have an ipad for music and also a sony ereader. I like the design of the sony tablet, but wonder if the ipad and samsung aren't more advanced with their software. Any suggestions please?

The Sony Tablet S and Samsung Galaxy 2 both run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich these days. Sony made the update to 4.0 available over the air some time ago. Now Android vs. iOS, that's a whole 'nuther can of worms  .

I know as I also have an iphone, but really unsure what to go for. What about between the samsung and the sony? It just seems that it's six of one, half a dozen of another

Yes, in terms of basic hardware specs, the two are pretty similar. I personally like the display on the Sony a bit better and find the 9.4" size and wedge design comfortable.
