Lenovo Announces ThinkPad Tablet 2 with Windows 8
      #43132 - 08/08/12 06:35 PM

The leak machine has been swirling around Lenovo's first Windows 8 tablet, and the company made it official today. Brace yourself: it will run on Intel Atom CPUs, just like that Netbook that you long ago tossed in the closet or gave to your kid. OK, it's not all that bad: Windows 8 runs extremely well on lower spec machines, and we suspect it will be downright tolerable though probably not super zippy.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 will have a 10.1" anti-glare IPS display running at 1366 x 768. Good stuff. The display supports multi-touch and an optional active digitizer with digital pen.

Other amenities include stereo speakers, a microSD card slot, USB 2.0 dock connector, WiFi, optional AT&T LTE 4G (HSPA+ overseas), a front 2MP camera and a rear 8 MP camera with LED flash.

The tablet weights a very light 1.3 pounds (no 4 pound Windows 7 monster here) and it runs Windows 8 Pro.

No word on price yet, though we don't expect to it be very expensive given the specs and CPU. It will be available sometime after Windows 8's launch date on October 26.

Lenovo also reminds us that the lovely ThinkPad X1 Carbon and ThinkPad T430u Ultrabooks will be available this month. The X1 Carbon starts at $1,299 and the T430u at $799. We have the ThinkPad Carbon X1 in house and will have a review soon.
