Amazon Kindle Fire HD Tablet Family Announced
      #43290 - 09/06/12 08:07 PM

Amazon's press conference was full of surprises today, and it seemed that the feature list for the new Kindle Fire HD tablets would never end. Perhaps the most exciting model is the Kindle Fire HD with 8.9" display. Priced at just $299, it has enticing specs including a 1920 x 1080 IPS display (talk about sharp fonts and good looking HD movies), the new 1.5GHz TI OMAP dual core 4470 CPU and 16 gigs of storage. The tablet has stereo speakers and Dolby audio as well as a front HD webcam with Skype software.

The tablet has dual band WiFi with MIMO, weighs just 1.25 pounds and is very slim. Software and services improvements include X-Ray for movies, X-Ray for text books and Immersion Reading (listen to the book while reading it on the page).

Prefer a smaller version? The Kindle Fire HD is $199 and it has a 7", 1280 x 800 display and a 1.2GHz dual core TI OMAP CPU with otherwise similar features as the 8.9" model.

Need a little more tech disruption? There's the Kindle Fire HD 4G LTE with an 8.9" display, 32 gigs of storage and 4G LTE. For $50/year you get 250 megs/month of wireless data. Now, that's not a lot of data folks, though it's still much cheaper than the same plan with the iPad.

The basic Kindle Fire drops to a crazy low $159 while updating the dual core CPU and doubling RAM.

The Kindle Fire HD 7" will be available September 14. The 8.9" models won't be available until Nov. 20.
