LG Escape Video Review, Affordable but Sweet AT&T Smartphone
      #43494 - 10/09/12 09:08 AM

By price, the LG Escape is a budget phone on ATT that's anything but budget in terms of design and features. Like the Pantech Flex (another good "budget" phone), the Escape sells for $50 on contract. It's an Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone with a slim and smart design. The LG has a 4.3" IPS display running at a reasonable 960 x 540 resolution and it runs on a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual core CPU (the same family as the more expensive Samsung Galaxy S III, HTC One X budget-priced Pantech Flex but clocked 300MHz slower). You probably won't notice that 300MHz, and the S4 is currently the top CPU available in US Android phones.

The Escape runs a mildly customized version of Android that's much toned down compared to LG's older models. The Optimus UI organizes the icon drawer into tabbed groups (all apps, downloaded apps and widgets) and has a useful QuickMemo feature that lets you take notes anywhere using your finger (it saves screen with your notes as an image file).

The phone has 4 gigs of storage with less than 2 gigs free, a microSD card slot under the battery cover, a removable 2150 mAh Lithium Ion battery, a front video chat camera and a rear 5MP camera that can take pretty decent photos and 1080p video. What's missing on this budget phone? There's no camera flash, no ambient light sensor to control display brightness and WiFi is single band 2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n. The phone has fast 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, a GPS and NFC. Voice quality is quite good.
