iLuv has a large number of accessories lined up for the iPhone 5. Most of them will be available in October, the iLuv Pulse Case is no exception. Uniquely designed, the iLuv Pulse is a two-layer case that's both protective of the iPhone 5 and looks playful. The TPU material feels nice in hand and is stronger than silicone to protect the phone from scratches. The two-tone Pulse case comes in four bright colors, blue/purple, black/white, pink/white and green/grey.
The iLuv Pulse case comes in two layers of TPU rubber. The interior layer is a normal cover case that covers the back and sides of the iPhone 5 and wraps around to cover the front edge of the phone as well. The second layer however gives the case a very unique look: it comes in a wave-like design that fits with the interior layer nicely. It has raised lines on the back and wave shaped sides. The interior layer has dips for the exterior to latch onto, so it won't fall off by accident. But you can separate them to make it easier to put the case on or take the case off, and it's very easy to put the exterior back on.
The interior layer of TPU is thick enough to prevent any scratches and bumps to the iPhone 5 when you put it in your backpack or travel bag. The exterior wave frame provides excellent shock absorbance and a better grip. Together, the two layers add a notice bulk that you can feel when you hold it. The phone feels wider while in the case. The case doesn't add much weigh however at 1.4 ounces.
The iLuv Pulse is a functional case and protective of the buttons on the iPhone 5. The power button and the volume buttons are under the rubber cover, and all are easy to press thanks to the shparly raised rubber buttons. The cutouts for the silence button, the rear camera and the flash and the bottom ports provide easy access to them. You should have no trouble using any audio cable or sync/charge cable with the iPhone 5 while it's in this case. But the two-layer cover does create some thickness on the bottom of the phone, so when you consider future audio systems such as speakers, alarms or docks, you should get those with enough room and tall enough connector to compensate the extra thickness.
The cutout for the rear camera gives the lens full view and the flash enough space to fully illuminate. The case also offers barrier for the front display when you put the phone face down. It doesn't come with any film protector for the front glass, but the case will work with any screen protector you get separately.
Playful and colorful, the iLuv Pulse is an eye-catching case that protects the iPhone 5 well. Two layers of TPU provides good protection against bumps, nicks as well as some drop protection. The case protects the iPhone 5's buttons with rubber and gives ports easy access. We like the two-tone color selection and the case is very easy to use. It does add some bulk to the phone and you'll feel it when you hold it in your hand.
