The Kensington Gel Case for the Samsung Galaxy S III has a very similar design to their Soft Case. The Gel Case oddly is stiffer than the rubber case with a shiny exterior. It can protect your phone from scratches, nicks and bumps as well as some shock damage. The Kensington Gel Case comes in black and white to match the colors of the Galaxy S III, but not red to match the Garnet version.

Design

The Kensington Gel Case for the Samsung Galaxy S III uses flexible silicone material but it's more rigid than most soft silicone cases we've seen. The case is indeed flexible enough that you can easily put the case on the phone and take it off. But it keeps the shape incredibly well, unlike most silicone cases we've seen with similar thickness. The case has a shiny exterior and soft touch interior. While the shiny exterior matches the shiny back of the Samsung Galaxy S III, the case feels slippery in hand. Not the best surface to help make the phone easier to handle. The Kensington Soft Case we reviewed before had a much better exterior surface to help with handling of the phone. The soft interior is gentle on the phone and won't leave marks or scratch it when you put the case on or take it off.

The Kensington Gel Case is strong enough to fend off hard scratches and big bumps. The case wraps around the sides of the phone and covers the front edges and corners. It can provide some shock absorption should you drop the phone and it creates a barrier for the front glass when you put the phone face down. The Kensington Gel Case doesn't come with any screen protector but it'll work with anything you use thanks to the flexible material.

Features

The design of the Kensington Gel Case is identical to the Kensington Soft Case with cutouts at the same places. The Kensington Gel Case offers easy access to all ports including the bottom charging/syncing connector, the 3.5mm audio jack and the rear camera/flash/speaker cluster. There are also mic holes for both the top and bottom mic. You should have no problem using any headphones, syncing cable and the camera on the back. The cutout allows full view for the camera lens and the flash to fully illuminate.

As with the Soft Case, the Kensington Gel Case for the Samsung Galaxy S III protects both the power button and the volume rocker. The case hide the button under raised silicone buttons that make it easy to use them but not easy to accidentally press them when you pick up the phone.

Conclusion

The Kensington Gel Case is a no-frill strong silicone case that's easy to use. The case is more protective than many soft silicone cases and it only weighs 0.8 oz. It can easily protect the back of your large S III from serious scratches and bumps and gives the phone some shock protection as well. The exterior surface is slippery, making it a bit hard to handle. The case has all the necessary cutouts and protects the control buttons from scratches. The case has matching black and white versions.
