We've looked at Musubo's Retro Case for Samsung Galaxy S III before. Musubo has now released an iPhone 5 case that uses the same design. Modeled after the old style microphones from the '30, the Musubo Retro Case for iPhone 5 looks unique and interesting. It offers two layers of protection to the back and sides of the iPhone 5, and it's still lightweight and very easy to use. The Musubo Retro Case for iPhone 5 comes in five solid colors: black, blue, red, silver and white.
The Musubo Retro Case for iPhone 5 offers two layers of protection for the smartphone. The interior layer is soft silicone that wrap around the back and sides of the phone. It feels soft and won't leave marks on your phone accidentally when you're handling it with the case. The exterior layer is made with hard polycarbonate that fits with the silicone case nicely. The silicone layer also covers the buttons on the iPhone 5, protecting them from exposure. Since you can install and take off the case in layers, it's quite easy to use. The two-layer protection works effectively against pokes, nicks to the phone as well as some shock protection.
The Musubo Retro Case for iPhone 5 has a very unique design. It's modeled after those old style mics and it specially looks like them when it comes in silver. The case has shiny surface to match the design, however it feels a little slippery in hand. The hard shell also adds some bulk but it's still lightweight at 1.6 ounces.
The Musubo Retro Case for iPhone 5 is a very functional case. It offers cutouts for all ports on the phone and raised silicone buttons that cover the iPhone 5's buttons but make them easy to press under the protection. The case has perfect cutouts for the silence button, the bottom audio grills and audio jack as well as the Lightning port. There is a cutout for the rear camera and flash that's big enough to give the lens full view and enough room for the flash to fully illuminate. There is also a decorative round cutout that works with the look of a mic but also let the Apple logo show through.
The case covers the front edge of the display with both layers so that when you put the phone face down, the case touches the surface instead of the screen. The Musubo Retro Case for iPhone 5 comes with a small media stand that works pretty decently for propping up the phone in landscape mode for watching movies, and when you done, you can unfold the stand into a flat piece that's easier to carry. The case doesn't come with any screen protector, but works with most film protector you get on your own.
The Musubo Retro Case for iPhone 5 certain stands out from the crowd with it's microphone replica design. The case offers good protection for daily use and lets you access everything without taking your phone out of the case. We like the color choices, especially Silver, and the included stand comes in very handy for media viewing. Two things to watch out, the case feels a little slippery because of the shiny plastic surface and it does add some bulk to your slim phone.
