For your "book-types" who miss your Pad and Quill's Little Black Book for your previous iPhones, fear not. Pad and Quill has released their signature case for the new iPhone 5. The new Little Black Book is thinner and classier than the one for the iPhone 4S with leather interior as well as exterior. In addition to the side pocket, the new Little Black Book for the iPhone 5 also added two credit card slots as well as an ID holder. Pad and Quill offers this case in two leather cover colors and four interior leather colors.

Design

The Pad and Quill Little Pocket Book for iPhone 5 case mostly follows the series design with a sturdy Baltic birch phone holder and a notebook style cover. With the elastic strap fastened, the Little Pocket Book looks indeed like a small notebook, hiding the iPhone 5's real presence. The case opens like a book, and if you need to make a phone call with the phone, you'll need to fold the front cover back to hold the phone to your ear. The birch wooden holder is super protective of the iPhone 5, nothing will scratch the phone or harm it while it's sitting in this case. The soft wood and the leather frame will also protect the phone from drop shock and other damage.

Unlike the cloth interior found on the iPhone 4S version of the Little Black Book, the new case uses leather throughout. The birch case is clued to the leather covers, and the adhesive on our case isn't super strong. We see some separation between the birch case and the leather back cover. The exterior leather has nice grainy texture while the interior leather is very smooth. The new Little Pocket Book for iPhone 5 has the bookmark tab found on previous cases but this one is only a decoration. The birch wood is soft and flexible enough that you can take the phone out and put it in easily without the help of the pull tab that looks like a bookmark.

The Little Pocket Book for iPhone 5 comes in either Onyx Black or Mahogany Brown, but you can mix and match more colors on the interior leather, colors such as French Roast, Merlot, Forest Green and Deep See Blue. These colors were featured in Pad and Quill's cloth interior in previous versions of their cases, and it's good to see that you can produce them in leather.

Features

If you like using a portfolio or notebook style case, the Little Pocket Book for iPhone 5 fits right in. The birch case has been smoothed out and polished and has cutouts for all the buttons and ports on the iPhone 5. The cutouts also have curves that make it more comfortable to use. The case has a large side cutout that leaves the silence button and volume buttons open for easy access, a large cutout on top to expose the power button, and the long cutout on the bottom to expose the audio ports and the Lightning port. The case also has a custom cutout for the rear camera and flash that gives the lens full view and the room for flash to fully illuminate. You should have no trouble using any cables or the camera while the iPhone 5 is in this case.

In the last version of the Little Pocket Book for iPhone 5, we got a side pocket that you can put a couple of bills in or business cards. The new case offers additional 2 credit card slots and a see-through photo ID holder. The slots are well made and it's easy to slide in and out credit cards. The case has strong stitching that matches the color of the case, and the elastic band is a must for keeping the cover secure if you put the phone in your bag or backpack.

Conclusion

Slimmer than the last version, Pad and Quill's Little Pocket Book for iPhone 5 measures 5.25 x 2.75 x 0.55 inches and weighs 2.4 ounces. It's a very protective case that covers the entire phone and conceals it in plain sight. The unique small notebook design is attractive, coupled with the leather cover that makes it look even more book-like. The case is very functional and it's easy to install the phone and take it out. Both exterior and interior color options are tasteful and match the style of the case. It does add some bulk to the slim device and you do have to fold back the front cover if you need to make a call using the phone directly.
