Reviewed by JadeDragon
Insider Tales: The Stolen Venus is a hidden object and puzzle game from Nevosoft. You enter the game as the famous detective, Francesca di Porta, to investigate an art crime. Botticelli's The Birth of Venus has been stolen, you must follow the clues and investigate crime scenes and many other locations in the beautiful Italian coastal town. Insider Tales: The Stolen Venus is well composed game that takes you to a mixed hidden object levels linked by puzzles. You'll get a few hours of gameplay and the game offers shparp and beautiful graphics along the journey.
The gameplay in Insider Tales: The Stolen Venus is well designed. There aren't a huge number of locations, but they're enough to keep you interested and never feel the gameplay to be repetitive. Most of hidden objects gameplay elements are here: find objects by words or images, compare two similar scenes and find differences and more. The scenes are well designed so that the gameplay provides enough challenge without cheap tricks, and there is a timed hint system where you can get hints in each level. A string of puzzle games, including puzzle piece games, slide box to escape, memory puzzles and more, pepper the hidden object gameplay. The puzzles are also well done with enough challenge but should get you stuck somewhere.
Insider Tales: The Stolen Venus provides a more immersive gameplay also thanks to the story which has a plot. Each character you run into in different locations have their own background story and each of them a suspect. Nevosoft did a good job giving us the reasons behind the actions in the gameplay.
Graphics & Sound
The graphics in Insider Tales: The Stolen Venus looks really sharp and beautiful on the iPad with Retina Display. The scenes for hidden object levels look stylish and clear, making it easier and a pleasure to play the game. The main map, the dialogue scenes and the characters all rendered nicely. Puzzles too look beautiful and sharp. The scene design and puzzle graphics give this game its own unique style and make it stand out from many hidden object games we see on iOS and Android.
Music though has limited selection. The sound track is relaxing, pleasant and long, but there isn't a lot of variety. You'll mostly listen to the same tune with a slight change when the level is completed. Sound effects are efficient; not a lot of variety but efficient to accompany the gameplay. While the characters were well done graphically and have good dialogues to tell their stories, it's a little disappointing that there isn't voice over. It would have enhanced these characters even more with voices.
In the sea of hidden object games, Insider Tales: The Stolen Venus stands out with its well designed gameplay that has balanced challenges and a good number of puzzles to make it more interesting. The game offers beautifully designed and rendered levels and characters as well as a simple yet interesting story. The Insider Tales should give you 5-6 hours of immersive gameplay that takes you to the beautiful scenes in southern Italy. We're glad to see that even though the game offers IAP, it doesn't nag you for more purchases once you bought the full game.
