Sena Cases offers over half a dozen leather cases for the iPad mini. The Jornal case is one of the versatile cases that provide both protections and functions well. The genuine leather case doesn't look too bulky and adds only 5.2 ounces weight, and it's very easy to use. The Sena Cases Jornal for Apple iPad mini comes in black leather with red or orange strap or red leather in white strap.

Design

The Sena Cases Jornal case is made with full grain leather and has a pebbled texture. The surface feels soft in hand but the case actually has serious inserts for both the front and back covers. The interior where your iPad mini is sitting in has soft micro fabric lining so the back of the tablet won't get scratched. The tablet holder sits on the right side and encloses the tablet with a Velcro tab. The front cover doubles as a wallet that includes a long pocket for bills, four credit card sized slots and an additional see-through ID slot. An elastic strap protected in a leather strip shuts the case securely.

At 5.2 ounces and reasonably slim profile, the Sena Cases Jornal doesn't add much bulk and weight to the slim iPad mini. The case not only protects the entire tablet easily from scratches, nicks or bumps but the strong inserts also provide good shock protection should you drop the tablet in the case. The case has good stitching that matches the case's color and a small tab on the back to work with the front cover as a built-in stand. Though the case comes in only two colors, the leather strip covering the elastic strap adds more color options to the collection.

Features

The Sena Cases Jornal is a functional case thanks to the cutouts for buttons and ports and the design that includes a built-in stand. The cutout on the side for the multi-function button and volume buttons gives you easy access; the top cutouts for the audio jack, mic and power button are aligned nicely and the bottom long cutout leaves out the speakers and the Lightning port. The cutout for the rear camera isn't exactly centered, though it doesn't block the lens' view if you push the tablet into the holder. But the biggest issue with using the camera isn't the cutout that's not perfectly centered but the closure leather strap blocking the lens when you actually use the camera. When you open the case, the strap folds to the back of the case, blocking the view of the lens; it unblocks it when you close the front cover with the strap, but then you don't have the view of the front screen to take photos using the camera.

The Sena Cases Jornal offers two viewing angles with its built-in stand, and both angles can hold the tablet steadily. The more upright angle offers a good position for both video chatting and media viewing and the flatter angle is great for typing using the on-screen keyboard. Both positions are designed to use the tablet in landscape mode. The front cover also works with iPad mini's magnetic closure for auto wake up and sleep.

Conclusion

The Sena Cases Jornal for Apple iPad mini is a stylish yet functional case that's made with good quality leather. It protects the tablet while giving you space to carry some cash, credit cards, business cards and an ID. The case is nicely built with strong inserts and good stitching, and we like the color options in currently choices. The built-in stand is very convenient for using the tablet and the magnetic auto wake/sleep feature works well. The only thing you don't have an easy access to is the rear camera that's blocked by the closure strap, and if you use the rear camera often on your iPad mini, this probably isn't a smart choice.
