As expected, Samsung announced the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona. With the same features and S Pen digital pen that we know and love from the Galaxy Note 10.1, this new 8" model is better for one-handed use and it sets it's sights on the 8" iPad mini. The tablet has a 1280 x 800 PLS display with a Wacom digitizer and S Pen for drawing and note taking. Like the Note 10.1, it runs on a quad core 1.6GHz Exynos CPU (ARM9) with 2 gigs of RAM and 32 or 64 gigs of storage. It will be released in Q2 of this year.
The tablet offers handwriting and formula recognition just like its big brother and it has an AV Remote with IR blaster to control your TV and other home theater gear. Bundled apps include Awesome Note, Diary, Memo, Flipboard, S Note and S Planner. It has the same floating video player we've seen on recent Galaxy smartphones and the Note 10.1. It runs Android OS 4.1.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung's TouchWiz software. Other goodies include SmartStay, Samsung ChatOn and Samsung's AllShare dLNA software.
The tablet has a rear 5 megapixel camera, front 1.3 megapixel camera, stereo speakers, a GPS with GLONASS on the 3G model, 3G HSPA+ 21Mbps on the overseas model, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 4,600 mAh battery. The Android tablet has a microSD card slot. It weighs .74 pounds and measures 8.3 x 5.3 inches.
