Mapi Cases makes leather cases for mobile phones and tablets. The Piges case for the iPad fits the iPad 2, the iPad 3 and the new iPad 4 with Retina Display. The case uses quality leather and it's solidly built. It's form fitting and comes with two legs on the back that can function like stands. The Piges case for iPad comes in five colors: black, red, tan, brown and white, though currently only the first four colors are available.

Design

The Mapi Piges iPad case has a shiny fine grained smooth surface. The case covers the back and sides of the iPad and the front bezel surrounding the display. It's easy to use this top loading case that opens on top and shuts with a large tab with a snap. The snap is tight and feels sturdy, and the closure tab doesn't accidentally snap open. The back of the case has soft padding and it can certainly protect your iPad's back from scratches, nicks or bumps if you carry it in your bag or backpack with other things. The Mapi Piges also comes with two stands, a long and large one for propping up the tablet for movie viewing or video chatting, and a short one for creating an angle that's comfortable for using the on-screen keyboard. Both stand legs have strong snaps as well, so that you can snap them to the back of the case when you don't need to use them. And both stands have strong inserts in them also that allow them to easily hold up the weight of the iPad.

The Mapi Piges Case for iPad has soft felt interior that feels soft and gentle and it won't leave marks on your iPad when you're handling it with the case. It has fine stitches on the end seams that match the color of the leather, but it uses a contrasting colored thicker rope stitching on the sides of the case. These thick rope stitching gives the case a sturdy feel and creates stronger barriers for bumps and bruises. While it adds a splash of contrasting color, depending on your taste, this could look good or bulky to you. This design also doesn't give the front edge cover the tight fit like other cases. This leads to having dirt, pet hair, small food pieces you drop on the tablet and other things trapped inside the front cover and depositing them on the edges of the iPad against the screen.

Features

The Mapi Piges Leather Case for iPad offers most necessary cutouts for ports and buttons on all the iPad models it supports. The case design leaves the top corners exposed without any leather covering them, and this gives you access to the top power button, the 3.5mm audio jack but no cutout for the top mic. We tested using the iPad for FaceTime while in the case, and found that this did not affect the volume of the outgoing audio at all. The case has a cutout for the rear camera and a perfect cutout for the side buttons including the screen lock and the volume rocker. The bottom cutout has perfect position for the 30-pin connector, and the speaker grill on the iPad enjoys cutout holes on the case.

The Mapi Piges cases has a semi-circle cutout on the front for the Home button and a small cutout for the front camera. The built-in stands are fashioned like picture frame stands. Both the long stand and the short one have ribbons that keep them from slipping on smooth surface and they both hold the iPad very steadily on the designed angles.

Conclusion

At 5.6 ounces, the Mapi Piges case for the iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPad 4 is a good case that protects the back and sides of the iPad save for the top two corners. It has nice padding and soft interior, and it comes in nice colors. The case's built-in stands are sturdy and keep the tablet up steadily. The quality of the material is excellent and it offers cutouts for all ports, buttons and cameras except the top mic. The only big issue with the case design is the front edge cover traps dirt and keeps it there against the screen.
