Deciding between carbon fiber
      #44927 - 07/04/13 12:28 PM

Wondering what you guys think about the new Sony vaio pros. I'm really digging the style of the laptops but there's one thing I kinda want to know. I mean I'm sure that the typing experience on the pro isn't think pad worthy but how good is it. Also when the x series is refreshed with Haswell would the keyboard alone be enough to sway anyone. (p.s I'm a heavy keyboard user as I do a bit of programming and type a lot of papers on the device)

As you might guess, I spend a lot of time writing reviews. And I really like the keyboard on the Vaio Pro 13. The chassis flex really doesn't transform into serious keyboard flex and I've typed about 10,000 words in the last week. I have a ThinkPad Helix in house, but I still use my Vaio Pro for writing.

Thanks Lisa that's really comforting to know a lot of the reviews have harped on the flex (whether intentional or not) and that's sometimes a big issue with the feel of a keyboard. Side note how does it handle Civ 5 only game I actually play on my laptop so I would love to know what it can do.

I'm a big Civ V fan, and it's pretty much the only thing I play on Ultrabooks since they handle Civ V well and the touch option is fun. It plays fine on the Vaio Pro 13, even at full HD resolution (with effects set to low).

Alright thank you Lisa I just have one more question for you. How does the vaio pro handle more professional applications like eclipse, CAD, Blender, and Sibelius. I know it's not going to be a power house I have a desktop for that but it would still be great to occasionally use these programs on the move.

I don't personally use those apps except for Eclipse, which runs quite well. CAD programs really do best with dedicated graphics, though I know folks push their Ultrabooks with HD graphics to run them even if it's slow.
