Portable Speaker Review: HMDX Rave Rechargeable Bluetooth Speaker Review
Editor's Ratings (1-5): 3.5
What's Hot: At a street price of about $30, it's very affordable. Comes in a variety of colors. Auxiliary input for devices that don't support Bluetooth. 3-4 hours of play between recharges.
What's Not: Bluetooth range is nowhere near the advertised 30 feet. Not much bass to speak of.

The Rave Bluetooth Speaker is a colorful and portable way to bring your music to the masses. The sound is good as long as you don't need a lot of bass, but the functional Bluetooth range is closer to 10' than the advertised 30'.
Size and Fit
At 6 x 2 x 2 inches, the Rave is portable enough to through in a backpack or purse, but definitely too big for most pockets.
Features and Quality
The Rave has all the features you'd expect from a Bluetooth speaker. It pairs effortlessly, offers auxiliary input (headphone jack), and gives you the ability to control your music directly from the speaker. While the sound is decently crisp and clear, there is the expected lack of bass that comes with a speaker of this size. The rechargeable battery will last you somewhere between 3-4 hours (depending on volume), and recharges in just a few hours. Unfortunately, however, I found the advertised Bluetooth range to be wildly exaggerated; especially if there is anything between the transmitting device and the Rave, such as people, for instance. While this is likely an inherent limitation of Bluetooth rather than a hardware defect, it's unfortunate that HMDX wasn't more realistic on the product page.
The Rave comes in 4 festive colors (pink, yellow, blue, and black), so there is likely something for every party here.
The Rave is a good portable speaker for the price. While the output is predictably lacking on the low end, the music is crisp and clear as long as you don't stray too far with your connected device.
