Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 Video Review
      #45193 - 08/27/13 06:05 PM

Is it a phone, a tablet or a phablet? You decide. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 is here on ATT, and despite the jumbo size, the price is small at $149 on contract and $479 without contract. Clearly that means you don't get top of the line specs, but the Mega 6.3 belies its mid-range specs with good performance and quality. This is an Android smartphone with a 6.3" display that's closer in size to a 7" tablet than a smartphone, though it cuts a significantly smaller figure than tablets. Still, it absolutely dwarfs the Moto X, iPhone 5 and even the Samsung Galaxy S4 looks compact in comparison. This is a phone for those who want a tablet more than a phone, but do still need to make calls now and again. Overseas folks are accustomed to tablets with cellular voice, but here in the US our tablets are neutered to remove cellular voice, so the Galaxy Mega 6.3 does fill a void.

The Galaxy Mega 6.3 looks like every other recent Samsung Android phone: it has a glossy black or white plastic back, a super-slim design, curved corners and a faux metal trim ring. Like other Samsung smartphones (but not tablets), it has a removable back cover that grants access to the swappable 3200 mAh battery, micro SIM card slot and microSD card slot. The tablet runs on a 1.7GHz Snapdragon 400 dual core CPU with Adreno 305 graphics, making it fairly powerful but not as fast as the top dog HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 with their quad core Snapdragon CPUs.

The Galaxy Mega 6.3 has very good voice quality for calls, though folks with small faces might have trouble lining up the mic and earpiece. Then again, we assume most of you will opt for a wired or wireless Bluetooth headset rather than hold this barn door to your head. The phone has the usual features: Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, NFC and dual band WiFi 802.11ac.
