iPhone 5s vs. HTC One Comparison Smackdown
      #45375 - 10/01/13 05:43 PM

The iPhone 5s and HTC One are arguably two of the most attractive smartphones on the market. Both make liberal use of metal and feel great in the hand. They're available on all major US carriers and share the same $199 with contract starting price. The HTC One features Beats audio with BoomSound stereo speakers, an IR remote to control your home theatre gear and a 4.7" full HD ISP display. The iPhone 5s has a 4" Retina display, is friendly to small hands and pockets and has Apple's new Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

The most important difference for many of you will be the operating system. The iPhone 5s runs iOS 7 while the HTC One runs Android 4.2.2 with HTC Sense 5. Nothing sparks arguments like a mobile OS competition. You know who you are: if you're a dedicated fan of iOS or Android, I don't think any phone will change your preference.

The second most important factor is size. You either want a small and easy to hold and carry phone (the iPhone 5s) or you adore Android's huge displays and only something like the HTC One will do. The HTC One may not have the largest display of any smartphone on the market (we're not even talking phablets here), but it's pretty close and is at the top end of what most folks still consider a manageable size. Those of you who love the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will think both the One and iPhone are small. Different sizes for different folks.

Both the iPhone 5s and the HTC One have cameras with oversized sensor pixels and that means better low light shots with less noise and more color. The HTC One has larger sensor pixels than the iPhone 5s, but the iPhone 5s fights back with twice the resolution (4 vs. 8MP). Those added pixels are important if you use larger format photos for websites and printing. You'll also get more usable images when using a desktop editor to crop and zoom.

There are plenty more points to consider, so do watch our iPhone 5s vs. HTC One Comparison Smackdown video.
