It walks and talks like an Ultrabook, but it has full mobile Intel Haswell CPUs rather than Ultrabook ULV CPUs, and it has faster Intel Iris graphics too. What is it? It's Apple's latest 13" MacBook Pro, where a Retina display, SSD drives and 4th gen CPUs are standard for the base $1,299 model. That makes for pretty nice premium machine that competes well against similarly priced high end Ultrabooks like the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus, Acer Aspire S7 and Sony Vaio Pro. As long as you don't want a touch screen, that is.
As ever, the casing is perfectly mated and a work of unibody aluminum art. The trackpad and keyboard are superb, and the 2560 x 1600 IPS display is one of the best in the business. The Mac ships with Mac OS X Mavericks, and the iLife and iWork suites are free downloads from the Mac Store.
