Sony Vaio Flip 15 Gaming and Pen Demo Videos
      #45997 - 02/04/14 12:12 PM

You've already checked out our Sony Vaio Flip 15 Video Review (if not, go do that now). How about the finer points of gaming with this 15.5" Windows 8 convertible Ultrabook that has NVIDIA GT 735M 2GB dedicated graphics? And what about that Sony digital pen that uses N-Trig technology for precise input and pressure sensitivity? In our two videos we put our $1,249 Flip 15 with a 1.8GHz Intel Core i7, 8 gigs RAM, 1 TB hybrid HDD and full HD display through it's paces gaming, drawing and taking notes.

In our first video we test several popular, demanding games: Max Payne 3 (a real pain because it's a greedy game that likes powerful rigs), Civ V with DirectX 11 touch enabled, Skyrim and BioShock Infinite. We show you the settings we used to achieve enjoyable and playable frame rates. Hint to those who game: NVIDIA Optimus switchable graphics tends to lead to throttling every so often to keep the power envelop under control. Go to your system power plan settings and set the CPU's max speed to 99% to avoid periodic, temporary throttling.

In our second video, we test the N-Trig pen and active digitizer that's part and parcel of every Flip model. Note that the pen might not be in the box with all models, but your Flip will work with the pen. You'll simply have to pay an additional $40 to buy the Sony-branded pen. We test OneNote 2013 for note taking, formula entry and diagramming. We also test several art programs including the bundled ArtRage. Other programs tested are Adobe Photoshop CC with the new WinTab driver for pressure sensitivity, Corel Painter X3 and Manga Studio 5. We don't demo Sketchbook Pro because it's such a model citizen: it works fine with every N-Trig and Wacom tablet we've tested. And yes, it works fine with the Vaio Flip too. And yes, the big screen is heavenly for digital painting and drawing!
