Dell Venue 11 Pro Video Review - Full Windows 10.8" Tablet Priced Right
      #46038 - 02/13/14 10:28 AM

The Dell Venue 11 Pro is a chameleon. It can be a budget-minded tablet with better than budget appointments or an Ultrabook-priced beast with internals to match. Or nearly match... We look at the base model with the new Intel Atom Bay Trail quad core CPU and a $499 price tag. For the price you get a lot of tablet: it runs full Window 8.1 32 bit with full support for exe programs, it has a superb full HD IPS display and a rarity among tablets--a removable battery. At the higher end, you can get the $849 ($899 in stores) Intel Core i5-4210Y with more memory and a much faster SSD instead of the eMMC flash storage that Atom is cursed with.

The optional keyboards will set you back $129 - $159 (again, more at retailers, cheaper at Dell.com). We look the heavier but more interesting Dell Mobile Tablet Keyboard with an internal battery that boosts runtimes 50%. It has absolutely normal clicky keys that are Dell XPS quality--it's a remarkably good typing experience for a 10.8" keyboard. It's also heavy at 1.75 lbs. and doesn't add any ports. The cheaper and lighter keyboard has true moving keys and competes with the Surface's Type Cover 2, minus the backlight. It wraps around the back and acts as a cover. Then there's the dock for your desktop that adds display and USB ports. Lastly there's the $30 Synaptics digital pen, and we put that to the test with note taking and drawing in our video.

Our base Venue 11 Pro has 2 gigs of RAM (not upgradable), 64 gigs of eMMC storage, dual band WiFi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, a front camera and rear 8MP camera. It weighs 1.57 lbs. and is 0.4" thick, making it as thin as competing mobile OS tablets and noticeably thinner than the Microsoft Surface Pro 2. Priced the same as the iPad Air and Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1, the Dell Venue 11 Pro is a compelling alternative for business and productivity-minded folks because it comes with Microsoft Office 2013 Home and Student Edition and it can run any Windows program that you wish.

Here's our Dell Venue 11 Pro video review. Our full written review will follow.
