The Moshi VersaCover for iPad Air is a slim and light case that combines a hard shell case with an origami cover as a built-in stand. The VersaCover is decidedly slimmer and lighter than the Moshi Concerti we reviewed for the iPad Air but provides good protection for the tablet nonetheless. The versatile built-in stand can position the tablet in many viewing angles and the tablet is highly functional while in the case. The Moshi VersaCover for iPad Air comes in four interesting colors.
The Moshi VersaCover for iPad Air is a well-designed case. The slim portfolio style case has a polycarbonate hard shell tablet holder on the right that fits the iPad Air perfectly, and a soft microfiber cover with stiff inserts on the left. The hard shell and the front cover can certainly protect the iPad Air from scratches, dents, nicks and bumps when you carry it in your bag or backpack, and the case adds very little bulk to the thin tablet and only 5.8 ounces in weight. The polycarbonate shell isn't too thick and has some flexibility, which makes it very easy to install the tablet in the case or take it out.
The VersaCover for iPad Air's front cover comes in four designer colors including Velvet Gray, Sakura Pink, Denim Blue and Aloe Green (pictured here). All four colors look delicious, devoid of startling primary colors. Regardless of your choice of the cover, the hard shell tablet holder always comes in clear with a small "moshi" logo plate on the back.
The Moshi VersaCover is a highly functional case. The hard shell that holds the tablet offers easy access to all ports and buttons. It has a long and generous cutout on the side for the screen lock and volume buttons and perfect cutouts for the bottom mic, speakers and the Lightning port, as well as the top audio port and mics. The case has a perfect cutout for the rear camera also. The case covers the power button with a raised plastic cover and it's easy to use the button while it's under the protection.
The biggest feature and the most fun part of the case is the front cover with an origami design. It might take you a bit of time to figure out how to fold it to position your iPad Air in the angles to suit your needs, but once you've figured it, it's easy to use it. The cover can prop up the iPad Air in either landscape or portrait orientations, and in three different viewing angles (40-degrees, 50- and 60-degrees) in landscape mode. If you don't want to try and figure it out yourself, Moshi has a video that shows you how:
In addition to the built-in stand, the cover on the case also works with iPad's auto-wake and sleep function. When you fold the cover back, the logo plate also works with the magnetic on the cover to keep the cover to the back of the tablet.
The Moshi VersaCover for iPad Air is a well-designed and well-machined case that provides good protection for the tablet while keeping the bulk and weight down to a minimum. The case is sturdy, versatile and super easy to use. We love all the color options in the collection, and if you like this case but you have another tablet model, the VersaCover currently is also available for the iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0.
