iPad Case Review: CHIL Notchbook Case for iPad Air Review

A new mobile device accessory designer, CHIL, has released a robust leather case for the iPad Air. The Notchbook Case for iPad Air is a multi-layered portfolio style case that can provide serious protection for the entire tablet. It has a built-in stand that can position your iPad Air in either landscape or portrait position. It also features a patent pending "notch" design that allows you to hold the tablet comfortably while in the case. The CHIL Notchbook Case for iPad Air comes in five colors.

Design

The CHIL Notchbook Case for iPad Air is built like tank and can protect your tablet from scratches, dents, pokes and nicks. The portfolio style case offers several layers of protection. You can strap the tablet to the rotating platform with four corner leather straps, two of which have elastic strips to make it easy for you to install the tablet and take it off. The case has full layer of protection on the front and back in addition to the tablet holder, giving the iPad Air sturdy protection. The exterior of the case is made with leather and the interior with microsuede lining. All three layers of the case have stiff and strong inserts between the leather and the soft lining. The multi-layer design gives the tablet extra structural support in case it suffers a drop or strong force against it, but it also adds considerable amount of bulk to the slim tablet and 12 ounces of weight.

The CHIL Notchbook Case for iPad Air comes in five exterior color options including Black, English Tan, Teal, Violet and Merlot, with interior color remains the same light gray. In addition to the iPad Air case, CHIL also makes this case for other iPad models, iPad mini models, as well as Samsung Galaxy tablets and Amazon Kindle tablets.

Features

The CHIL Notchbook Case for iPad Air offers full access to ports and buttons on the tablet. Since the tablet is attached to the holder via four small straps, all ports and buttons are open for easy access. The top right corner strap does mingle with the side buttons (screen orientation lock and volume buttons), but it isn't too hard to find the buttons around the strap. The case has a generous cutout on the back through two thick layers of protection and lets you use the camera with full view for the lens.

The CHIL Notchbook Case's design gives you the ability to rotate the tablet 360 degrees while in the case. You can position the tablet in either landscape mode or portrait mode in several viewing angles, and you can also fold it to create a slight angle that's better for typing with the on-screen keyboard. The tablet feels steady in standing positions and the rotation works smoothly.

The name of the case indicates that the CHIL Notchbook Case offers something special. The bottom left corner of the case has a "notch" and you can lift it up and slide your hand to hold the tablet towards the center as opposed to the bottom. This makes it easy to balance the tablet in your hand and also reduce fatigue if you hold the tablet for a long period of time. The "notch" works well on 10" tablets as well as on the smaller 7" tablets.

The Notchbook's front cover also works with iPad's auto wake/sleep feature smoothly and it shuts reasonably securely with small magnets but it doesn't shut completely. If you store your tablet in this case and carry it in your bag, small items, lint and paper might get in between the cover and the tablet.

Conclusion

The CHIL Notchbook Case for iPad Air is a very protective case and offers many features that make using your tablet convenient and comfortable. The case has a professional design and comes in five colors. We like the built-in stand that's flexible and well build, and the "notch" does make the tablet easy to hold. For the strong protection, the case adds considerable amount of bulk and weight.
