Portable Battery Review: Patriot FUEL Active 6000mAh Battery Review
      #46291 - 04/11/14 01:18 PM

Patriot has released a new line of portable battery chargers for smartphones and tablets. The Patriot FUEL Active Mobile Rechargeable Battery 6000mAh with 3-stage LED flashlight is designed with active users in mind. The battery can charge smartphones, cameras, GPS units as well as tablets, and can charge two devices at the same time. The Patriot FUEL Active 6000mAh Battery comes in bright yellow.

Design

The Patriot FUEL Active 6000mAh Battery is designed for outdoor enthusiasts who need portable power for their gadgets. The battery has a sturdy plastic housing with all ports protected under a rubber cover. The battery comes in a bright yellow that's easy to spot in your backpack or in the dark. Speaking of camping in darkness, the battery also has a built-in 26 lumen LED flashlight on one side that offers three stages of lighting: bright, ultra-bright and emergency alert. The battery measures 4.87 x 2.81 x 0.61 inches and it weights 6 ounces. The Patriot FUEL Active 6000mAh Battery is easy to use. It has only two operating buttons, one for turning on charging and one for turning on the flashlight. The power input port for recharging the battery and the 2.5A USB output port share the topside of the battery while the built-in micro USB output cable extends from the side. The battery comes with a short USB charging cable as well.

Features

As with other Patriot portable batteries, the Patriot FUEL Active 6000mAh Battery uses high grade Lithium Polymer battery and has built-in protection against over charge, over current, over temperature and short circuit. The battery has four hidden LED lights that only light up when it's either charging your devices or while it's recharging itself. The yellow LED lights flash when it's charging and they stay solid when the battery is fully charged or a red light on top of the yellow lights will come on when the battery is empty. The battery takes many hours to recharge via USB.

It's very convenient to have the built-in micro USB output cable for most smartphones, cameras and GPS devices. The built-in output has 1A power, which can take care of most smartphones and smaller devices. The full USB output port on top of the battery has 2.5A power, which can charge tablets and supports fast charging. We tested it with several smartphones and tablets, and found the battery worked well with all. With full power, the Patriot FUEL Active 6000mAh Battery can fill up an iPhone 5s twice from 20% battery on the phone to 100% in about 2.5 hours using the fast charging 2.5A port. It can fill up the LG G Flex from zero power to 100% once in about 2.5 hours. It can fill up at least 1.5 times of the Sony Xperia Z1S' battery in about 2.5 hours. With a full charge, the Patriot FUEL Active 6000mAh Battery can top up the iPad Air with 50% power.

Conclusion

For the campers, climbers, kayakers and those who work in the field, away from power outlets, the Patriot FUEL Active 6000mAh Battery not only provides extra power for your smartphone and gadgets but also gives you a handy flashlight. The battery has water resistant housing and dust proof port covers. It's safe and easy to use. It works with most devices and it can charge two devices at the same time. Patriot also offers the Active series of portable batteries in smaller stick form that has 2000mAh power.
