Smartphone Case Review: Trident Cyclops Case for Samsung Galaxy S5 Review
      #46428 - 05/09/14 08:49 PM

Next to the Trident Kraken AMS case, the Trident Cyclops Case for Samsung Galaxy S5 is one of the most rugged cases for the new Samsung smartphone. The Cyclops case offers the same hardened polycarbonate shell, the shock absorbing TPE sides, the built-in front screen plastic protector as the Kraken series case and it passes MIL-STD-810F test. The Trident Cyclops Case for Samsung Galaxy S5 currently comes in six color options.

The Trident Cyclops Case for Samsung Galaxy S5 has very similar bells and whistles as the Trident Kraken AMS case but without the option of a hard plastic belt clips holster. The case has strong construction with its hardened bio-enhanced polycarbonate shell that feels strong and sturdy. The sides of the case and the edges on the back have enhanced rubber (TPE) lining that's molded into the hard plastic shell, and unlike the Cyclops case for the Samsung Galaxy S4, you can't lift the rubber sides. This gives the case a better seal but also makes it harder to take off. As with the Kraken case for the Galaxy S5, the Cyclops case has a built-in screen protector that snaps onto the shell.

The Trident Cyclops Case for Samsung Galaxy S5 can easily protect your smartphone from scratches, bumps and nicks and provides serious drop protection. The case is also slim for the amount of protection it provides, and weighs only 2.4 ounces. The Cyclops case comes in six color options, black, blue, gray, pink, red and Trident Green, though the rubber lining comes in only black with all color options.

The Trident Cyclops Case for Samsung Galaxy S5 passes military standard test, the 810F, for drop, vibration, dust, sand and rain protection. The drop tests passes 26 drops onto concrete from 4ft. and rain test passes 7.9" per hour rain at 40 mph wind velocity for an hour. The case has dust covers for all ports except the rear camera and flash cluster and the speaker grill, though the Samsung Galaxy S5 itself has seals against water on the back cover. The case covers the control buttons on the Galaxy S5, and the rubber covers over the buttons have good tactile feedback and clicking sound. They're much easier to use than the covered buttons found on the Trident Perseus Gel Case. The Cyclops case has cutouts for the phone's mic, IR windows and has a lanyard holder on the lower right side.

The Trident Cyclops Case for Samsung Galaxy S5 is a very protective case yet keeps the form slim and light. The case has strong construction, shock-absorbing sides and corners and it's very functional with cutouts and covered ports. The case protects your phone against drops, rain, dust, sand and more, and it has a built-in screen protector so that your phone's large display won't get scratched. The case works with the fingerprint scanner very well and gives you easy access to the camera/flash and heart rate monitor. We like the color options in this case series, and if you need more protection for the display while in transit or to attach your phone to your belt or your bag/backpack's shoulder strap, the Kraken AMS offers that extra feature in addition to the great protection. The only thing to watch out for is that the Cyclops case is not easy to remove, and for a phone that has a removable back, it creates some inconvenience for the users.

Editor's Ratings (1-5): 4.5
