Tablet Case Review: Logitech Hinge Case for iPad Air Review
      #46752 - 07/23/14 02:46 PM

Among Logitech's folio cases for the iPad Air, the Hinge case stands out in its gray suit-like exterior material, the sturdy hard shell tablet holder and its signature metal hinge that allows you to position the tablet in any angle within 50 degrees, making it one of the most versatile cases on the market. The Logitech Hinge Case for iPad Air is very slim and very easy to use.

Design

The Logitech Hinge Case for iPad Air has a unique and professional look. The exterior cover, on both front and back, is made with gray polyester that gives the case a gabardine fabric look and feel. The texture is grippy, preventing the case from slipping in your hand. It's also spill resistant. The tablet holder on the right side is made with polycarbonate hard shell, and it's slim and easy to install and take off. The interior of the front cover is soft polyurethane micro fiber lining, and it has thin but stiff insert to protect the display from pokes and scratches. The Logitech Hinge Case for iPad Air can certainly protect your tablet from any bumps and nicks as well as some shock damage.

For the good amount of protection the case offers, the Logitech Hinge Case for iPad Air is surprisingly slim. The case isn't very light however, weighing 11.8 ounces thanks to the heavier hard shell that protects the tablet's back, corners and sides, and the metal hinge. The Logitech Hinge case comes in only gray exterior with purple interior.

Features

The Logitech Hinge Case for iPad Air is a super functional case thanks to the perfect cutouts for all ports and buttons. The hard shell tablet holder has curved cutouts for the bottom speakers and the Lightning port, and the cutout for the Lightning port lets you put your tablet into the case or take it out without disconnecting from the charging cable. The side cutout for the screen lock button and volume buttons are perfectly position and just generous enough to make it easy to use these buttons. The case has a perfectly centered cutout for the rear camera as well as cutouts for the top power button, audio jack and two mics.

The tablet holder on the Logitech Hinge Case is form fitting to the iPad Air and the front edges of the case don't invade the display space, which means you can use any screen protector and the case won't push it up or interfere in any way. The unique design on the Hinge case is that it actually has a metal hinge on the back that allows you to prop up the iPad Air either facing towards you to use the tablet yourself or away from you to share the content on your tablet with someone else. The metal hinge can rotate 50 degrees, and within its range, you can position the tablet in just about any angles that are perfectly for media viewing, web surfacing, FaceTime chatting, typing onscreen and more. The hinge is easy to operate yet stiff enough that when you pick a position for the tablet, the hinge will hold in that position steadily. The front cover also supports iPad's auto wake and sleep function nicely.

Conclusion

The Logitech Hinge Case for iPad Air is one of the most professional looking case yet offers some fashion flare with its gray suit look. If you happen to have gray suits, this case would seem to have been designed just for you. Beyond pleasing your fashion sense, the Hinge case is excellent at protecting your tablet from daily wear and tear without adding too much bulk, and it's very easy to use. The built-in stand with the metal hinge is a very clever design, one that you can benefit for a long time before it wears out. The case allows you to flip the tablet to face away from you, a feature that adds versatility to what you can do with your tablet and the cutouts give you access to everything on the tablet easily. The case does add some extra weight and comes in only one color.
