Where are all of the good free games?
      #5765 - 09/24/03 09:42 PM

I have Warring States, but it is too short and easy of a game.
Where are all of the good games?
What are the good games?
Are there any good games that are free?
I have an iPAQ, PPC.

I suggest the excellent PPC freeware site: www.freewareppc.com
There's also freeware reviews right here on PDA Buyer's Guide.

And there's also a Freewrepalm.com for those of you who have palms (ahh, when I had mine... that was a daily visit) --of course, you still have to sort through all the bad and then some popups -- but for the good games, its worth it. Games I remember that were good, or looked good: SF Cave, uhhhhhh, SPACE TRADER!!!!!! And Napalm Racer looked good too -- but i had a handspring visor deluxe -- and Nooo.. Palm OS 3.11 wasn't good enough !

I know what you mean but thanks to emulators you have some superb games instantly !

I have PocketClive (Spectrum), Pocket C64, PocketAtari, PocketEngine (Superb games), PocketNES and Pocket GB and Pocket Master System/Game gear

The shoot em ups on PocketEngine are superb and the games for NES and Master system are excellent as well

How does an emulator work? Will it work in my iPaq 4155? In case it does, what do I need to do? thanks for your help....

years ago roms were everywhere and easy to find -- now they're much much more difficult to find and unless you own the game, its just not worth the risk of getting caught. Usually, the public domain roms are pretty bad or are test roms (like a GB color test or something like that). And very rarely is the emulation perfect anyway, I have a Sharp Zaurus and I have run SNES games on it -- but they run slowly. NES and Gameboy games run pretty well and some MAME (arcade)games run too. I personally don't think emulation on mobile devices is that great other than a than as a tech demo to your friends -- keymapping is usually a problem. Gameboy is your best bet -- if you're into that sort of thing.

Well, there are still a lot of ROM sites out there, especially for older system.

My favourite platform to emulate is Sega Master System or Game Gear (same system, different resolution). And I use the emulator called CEGG, which can handle both. It runs at ok speed on even the oldest PPC I still own, the Cassiopeia E-125. And on a newer one, like my Viewsonic V37, it runs full speed with great sound (most of the time).

You can find quite a lot of good games for this platform, and they are generally less outdated. Streets of Rage, R-Type, Shinobi GG, Bust-A-Move... just to name a few. In particular, Bust-A-Move gets the most votes from the girls
