Tungsten E problem
      #7696 - 01/04/04 01:19 AM

Hi, I bought my husband a Tungsten E Palm for Christmas. He transferred his contacts into it, and after that the PDA wouldn't shut off. Initially it went off for a few seconds, but then restarted.

He took it back and the second one is doing the same thing. He even manually typed the information in.

He needs this for a business trip on Monday. Do we take it back again, or is there a trick that he has overlooked?

Please help

He didn't HotSync his old Palm's data to it, did he? While you can use the same HotSync name for a new Palm, there are instructions that come with the Palm and are available on Palm's web site. If you sync the old Palm's system files to the new Palm, it will cause all sorts of problems.

No, he doesn't have another Palm or any other kind of PDA. Someone at TechTv gave me a link to someone who says that there is a glitch in the Palm. He said that if you activate the reminder, it makes the Palm stay on.

Thanks for your response.

Do you know if there is a patch for this?

I don't know of a bug relating to reminders or alarms. But it will turn itself on to remind you of alarms you've (or your hubby) has set. He can set the reminder to not repeat so that it will stay off after it's sounded once.

Thanks for your reply. My husband didn't set any alarms. He put addresses and phone numbers in his PDA. He set a reminder, not an alarm, for birthdays.

If you don't dismiss the reminders, the Palm will keep turning itself on a few times to show you that reminder. The default for the reminder to come on is three times, every five minutes. The max number of reminder you can set is ten times. Have him check the reminders and see if they are causing the problem.
