Mourning for the Psion 5mx...
      #9586 - 03/27/04 12:29 PM

As an author whose Psion Series 5mx has finally succumbed to the infamous screen cable problem, I now find myself in the (bewilderingly huge) market for a new PDA. I want to be able to do some pretty serious writing on it, and I was wondering if I should get a PDA with an integrated keyboard, a la the Cli? UX-50, or go with a more traditional slate design plus keyboard. I can wait 'till around mid-June, so would you advise waiting for PalmOS 6? (Oh, and I don't want a PPC device, since I have a Mac and don't really like the interface.) MP3 and so on would be nice, but not essential... advice, anyone?

Sorry to hear your Psion went. It's a darn good device!

I personal could never use the built-in keyboard, even though some of them are very good. I must have a full size, true touch type keyboard. There are many good ones to choose from. If you want to give the built-in keyboard a try, UX50 is hard to beat. Otherwise, check out the Tungsten T|3: http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/palm_Tungsten_T3.htm

As for whether to wait for OS 6 devices, it's a personal decision.
