My Visor Edge just died after 3 years of faithful service. I had pretty much convinced myself to get a Tungsten E until I started reading about all of the quality problems: folks having to reset them frequently, units dying in 6 months or less, etc.
I carry my PDA in my front pants pocket, so if it's too big I won't use it (a lesson learned from my Velo - a great PDA, but it had to ride in the brief case so I just didn't use it), and if it won't hold up to daily use (the story I am reading on the E) then why even bother. Not counting the last couple of weeks (the dreaded death spiral), I carried my Edge everywhere and probably only had to do a soft reset 2 or 3 times in 3 years.
So, maybe it's time to move back to a Windows machine . . . of those that I can find, the one that I like the best is the Viewsonic V37-2. It's small, light, and reasonably powerful, but it doesn't have a flip-top and I worry that the leather case will make it too thick. Also, I'm not able to find any solid evidence of Viewsonic's track record with PDA's.
I don't want a camera in my PDA (my handle notwithstanding), and I don't live in an area with good wireless, so I just want a really solid, dependable PDA. If I can't find what I want, I may just spend $90 for a reconditioned Edge and wait until someone comes out with the right product <heavy sigh>.
Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.
Regards, Greg

I don't have a Tungsten E, so can't comment on that. But if you worry about quality of unit and the size, why not check out the small HP unit like this one
Thanks for the tip. I like the small size, but it isn't obvious that the iPAQ 19xx series is a better choice. Although the 1935 is $50 cheaper than the Viewsonic V37-2, it doesn't have an integral flip cover (same as the Viewsonic), and I have read that a lot of iPAQ folks have experienced the ol' mysterious "cracked screen" problem.

Greg
