The size of a song depends, obviously, on the length of the song itself, and the sample rate. I ripped most of my music at 56K or 64K bit rate. You set the rate in the software that you're using to convert - rip - the music from the CD to mp3's. Most of my songs are between 1 and 3 MB. In my 256 MB mp3 player I have 7 albums, and use about 180 MB. I'm not an expert on mp3's nor any kind of an audiophile, but 56K bit rate sounds just fine for my music on my device.
