Re: Which Memory Card is fast enough for Video? [Re: ]

CF cards are generally faster than SD because the data bus for CF is faster.

There are high speed CF and SD cards. We have a couple reviewed on this site: http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/tips/storage.htm .

For SD cards, generally Panasonic, ATP, the hight speed Kingston models and Lexar are some of the fastest.

take a look at some of our SD card reviews which have benchmarks comparing cards. For example the Kingston review at http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/tips/kingston_elite_cards.htm and the Panasonic and PNY review at http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/tips/PNY_Panasonic_SD_cards.htm .

The CF card interface is faster than the SD card interface, so speed ratings are more important for SD cards. You will benefit from faster transfer rates in either case, but more so for SD cards since you're compensating for the speed of the card interface. If you're just opening Word, Excel and photo files under 100k it won't make much of a difference. If you want to work with larger images and videos it will definitely make a difference. If the device has a camera, faster card write times mean that the device will save photos faster and be ready for the next shot quicker.

Hi! I'm also looking to get a fast memory card (whether be it SD or CF) for a new hx4700 purchase. Just FYI, if you're looking for SD card reviews, this website reaffirms ATP's position as having excellent makes of SD:

Frequently updated CF/SD comparison database [Re: SweeJ]

Hi again,

I completely forgot that I had this link in my digital photography bookmarks. This website is frequently updated with the industy's latest models of CF/SD cards, that sometimes don't even make it to the market yet! Kudos to Rob!

http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007

It features nearly all of the companies in the memory card business and is tested on mostly digital cameras and card readers, and is vigorously tested. So, I guess his benchmarks can be accurately reflect real world senarios.

Again, ATP is quite high up there with their SD 60X cards. However, the new SanDisk Extreme III that's coming to the market presently holds the crown as fastest CF/SD cards.
