Can HP Ipaq HX4705 powered up without battery ?

I bought a HP Ipaq HX4705 lastnight and it was a display unit at the store without battery. I was expecting PDA would powerup if placed in cradle even without battery but it doesnt.

Does any one knows if this PDA will powerup by just connecting to powersupply without battery unit ???

I just wanted to make sure the PDA is not dead.

In the old days you could power a Pocket PC just using the AC adapter but those made in the last year or so require the battery to be in place.
