Beware All Ye Who Enter the Land of Palm
      #26963 - 02/27/07 03:24 PM

Palms are poorly built. They break. The batteries often can't be replaced. When they die, generally early, the whole machine is toast. And of course, they crash, and crash again, and again. And we are saps to continue buying the garbage that Palm produces. I'm the worst sucker of them all. I've owned six Palms since the Palm III days. None has lasted more than 1 year. I've been patient and honored the Palm god because I am always reluctant to pay homage to Microsoft if I don't have to.

This is it however. Never again. This is my second Treo 600. The first lasted a while then stopped talking to Verizon. Verizon swapped it out because of some flaw in the chip that was so aggregious that they felt compelled to do so - very good of them, I might add. The replacement lasted for the warranty period plus 40 days and 40 nights. Then the battery is died. And, the soldiers of Verizon said unto me, "don't send it to us, nothing we can do". And the guardian of the retailer quoth, "Sorry man, you gotta buy a new phone". A wretched consumer as myself cannot be blamed for believing that Palm truly does not care about its products, its customers, or its legacy.

Who's fault is it? As Palm customers it is ours. More narrowly, I am directly responsible. I encouraged them by buying their products. My tribute supported their kingdom. No more. I'm attempting to remedy the situation as best I can by leaving this post.

All ye who review consumer electronics; I beseech you to shout about the physical quality; the lack of longevity. I implore you to write about the fleeting warranties and poor serviceability. I plead with you to describe in vivid detail the instruction booklets, customer support lines, and official websites that reek of rotting flesh. If not, ye and your flock shall be struck asunder by MBAs with razor sharp horns erupting from their heads, and cattle prods lashing to and fro from the end of their tails.

In the land of Palm beware, beware all ye who enter here.
