Apple just presented their Q3 earnings report for the quarter ending June 30th. Total iPhone sales were 270,000 for June 29 and June 30 according to Apple, and of those, 146,000 were activated by AT and T during that period. Apple declared 5 million dollars of iPhone hardware revenue for those 2 days, and the remainder of iPhone revenue is tracked in a deferred manner using a subscription accounting model (the same is true of Apple TV revenue accounting). Apple did not state how many iPhones total have sold to date, but they did say they hope to sell 1 million iPhones total by the end of Q4 and 10 million by the end of 2008 worldwide. In after presentation questions when pressured to divulge more about iPhone sales, Apple stuck with their statement that they hope to sell the 1 millionth iPhone by the end of September (their Q4 end).
Overall, Apple had a record quarter, with .92 profit per share ($818 million). Mac sales were up 33% at 1,764,000, with 64% being notebooks. They sold 9.8 million iPods which is an improvement of 21% from the year ago quarter.
