The iPhone 3G S and the Palm Pre both use a hot new mobile CPU, called the ARM Cortex A8 and a graphics processor that can potentially handle 7x the geometry throughput of the iPhone first gen and 3G and 2.5x the fill rate (you gamers know what this means-- mucho faster graphics in games). Anandtech has a detailed and very interesting article describing the iPhone 3G S and Pre's brains-- for those who are interested in just how and why these two devices are as fast as they are (particularly the iPhone 3G S thanks to its platform's relative maturity compared to the just released webOS on the Pre) it's a great read.
