iPhone Game Review: Zombiehunter (7DA)

iPhone Game Review: Zombiehunter (7DA)

The Zombie Apocalypse is near! Dr. Kayla Cupper almost has the vaccine ready; she just needs you to hold off the endless hordes a few more days. Sure, no problem, there's one of you and endless millions of them.

This third person perspective action shooter has you controlling the action with two virtual d-pads at the bottom of the screen, the left controls your movement and the right one controls the direction you fire your current weapon. Your primary objective will always be not to get killed. In the game?s History Mode you will relive the infamous seven days in which Dr. Cupper and you saved the world by fulfilling each day?s ever increasingly difficult mission objectives (as simple as kill 25 zombies to more complex objective like escorting the defenseless Dr. Cupper to her lab). Completing the day?s objective unlocks the next day; fail and you?ll need to relive the day again until you get it right. If you get tired of dealing with all of those silly mission objectives you?re also free to just play the game in Survival Mode which is just you vs. an endless onslaught of zombies with your end score based on how long you manage to hold out. To aid you against these impossible odds some zombies will leave behind useful treasures (shotguns, first aid kits, speed pills, chainsaws, and more) that you can sag just by walking over them before they disappear again sinking into the various zombie entrails scattered all over the area.

The game features sharply rendered and smoothly animated 3D zombies of various shapes and sizes. Not only do they look neat and menacing as they come at you, they?ll crumple into nice and appropriately animated heaps depending on how you kill them (sorry, the game doesn?t give you an option to simply talk it out). While the sounds aren?t necessarily groundbreaking, the music fits the mood of the game and the rest of the sounds effects hit the spot (various gun blasts, zombie groans, and lots of splattering).

But wait, there?s more! Since you?re reading this review months after the game?s initial release you?ll not only be getting global scoring and OS 3.0 optimization that was added after the initial release but a whole new chapter to the initial game?s seven days of living Hell. This second chapter is entitled Mutation and let?s just say that Dr. Cupper?s initial cure didn?t quite take as expected (zombie, mutant, does it really matter, just kill the damned thing already!). Whereas the first chapter?s missions all took place outside of a spooky mansion, this series of missions is taking place in a more urban location with lots of narrow little corridors and other obstacles to deal with over another 7 days complete with a scary boss monster!

Ratings (scale of 1 to 5):
Graphics: 5 Nicely animated 3D models!
Sound: 4 A wide variety of zombie groans, gunfire, and splatter sounds.
Fun Meter 5 Become the hero of your own zombie slasher movie.
Addictivity 5 Even after you?ve completed all of the story missions you can come back to test your mettle in Survival Mode.

Playing Hints and Tips:
-Don?t die!
-Learn to use the terrain to your advantage by forcing them to come at you through a narrow opening.
-With experience you?ll learn how to take advantage of all of the game?s many powerups (like try to make your very limited number of shot from the plasma rifle count and don?t just shoot it off all willy nilly).
