When Spring Design, the company that worked with Barnes and Noble to create the nook, and BN parted ways just before the nook's release, we were dying to know what Spring Design would have created on their own. The answer is Alex the ereader, with a 6" e-ink display up top and a 3.5" touch screen on the bottom running Android 1.5. You get the clarity and battery life of e-ink with the power of Android's web browser, email app and multimedia players too. It's as easy to marry the two experiences together as you might think, and Spring Design does a reasonably good job. The reader has WiFi and you can download books using the web browser or side load them over USB. PDF, ePUB with and without DRM, text and HTML books are supported.
