iPhone Game Review: They Need To Be Fed Reviewed by ninjackid
Lovable monsters... they need to be fed. So, you must brave the treacherous moving platforms with spikes, lasers, and homing missiles only to throw yourself into the mouth of the monster waiting at the end of each level. Kind of sad isn't it? But wait! Before you stop reading due the unfortunate fate of the games main character, you must know that this is a Platformer that's not to be missed...
In a game that has no other plot than to feed the monster at the end of each of the games 7 levels across 7 worlds, you can get quite busy. They Need To Be Fed by YoYo Games is a gravitational platformer that uses gravity mechanics, like in the popular platformer Soosiz, each platform has it's own gravitational pull, so when you jump from on platform to another, you're pulled into that platform's gravity. This gets gradually more and more difficult as the game progresses, as each world introduces a new element of obstacles to the gameplay. It starts out with just platforms and spikes, and gradually moving platforms, homing missiles and lasers get introduced. There are no baddies to avoid, but there are plenty of obstacles and dangers to keep you busy.
In each level there are 1-3 diamonds scattered throughout and once you collect all of them (or 99 of them) you unlock the X levels, which are basically one more level for each world, which introduce various other elements of gameplay.
You control the character by using two buttons for moving right and left, and a button to jump. The controls work perfectly, and are easy to get used to.
Though there are 7 levels in 7 different worlds (plus the X levels), each level is fairly short, and the entire game could be completed in one sitting. This isn't necessarily a very bad thing, because the game itself is so much fun. For diehard fans of the genre who might have bigger appetites, we hope that there will be more levels and worlds in future updates.
Graphics & Sound
The game features silhouette graphics over colorful background, which contrast perfectly, making the graphics really stand out. They also have a great cartoony appeal.
Jake Almond did a great job with game?s soundtrack. It?s fun and quirky, fits the game perfectly. Sound effects also really add to the games overall theme. iPod music is supported.
They Need To Be Feed is a well-polished and extremely fun platformer game that is perfect and will satisfy all your platformer cravings. Though it?s a bit short, it?s still a must-have for fans of the genre.
