Verizon Wireless is very proud to be the first US carrier to bring the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play to our shores. At a private press event hosted by Verizon, Sony Ericcson showed off gaming on the the Xperia Play Android smartphone. With a few pro gamers on hand demoing the phone, we shoot a video of the Xperia Play handling games like Asphalt 6 Adrenaline, Crash Bandicoot and Star Battalion very smoothly.
The Xperia Play runs on 1GHz Scorpion ARMv7 CPU and Android 2.3 Gingerbread, has a 5 megapixel camera and 4" capacitive display with 480 x 854 resolution.
The Xperia Play is preloaded with the following games: Madden NFL 11 by EA, Burce Lee Dragon Warrior by Digital Legends, Ashpalt 6: Adrenaline by Gameloft, Star Battalion by Gameloft, The Sims 3 by EA and Tetris by EA. There will be over 50 titles available at launch, and you can buy these game via either the Android Market or V Cast app store.
The Playstation controls work in other apps like navigating the menus and web pages in the web browser.
The two stereo speakers fire from the bottom toward the front when you slide open the playstation controls, and when you hold the phone using the Playstation controls you help channel the sound toward you. The sound FX and music tracks sound excellent.
