iPhone 4 Case Review: Speck PixelSkin HD Case for iPhone 4 (ATT and Verizon) Reviewed by Tong Zhang

What's Hot: Sturdy, slim and colorful.
What's Not: The cutout is off the center of Verizon iPhone 4's mute button.
The PixelSkin cases are one of the best sellers for Speck and they make this case for many devices including the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4. We love this case because it's actually very slim while providing good protection for the device, has a non-slippery surface and comes in many bright colors. The case is simple yet very functional.
The Speck PixelSkin HD case for the iPhone 4 has similar design as the PixelSkin case but with two major differences: the PixelSkin HD is made with TPU, a treated plastic that?s sturdy and resistant to oil, grease and abrasion, while the PixelSkin case is made with silicone. Another difference is that the HD case has smaller tiles (6 DPI) and cuts clean edges around the iPhone 4 while the non-HD case?s tiles are larger with textured edges. The Speck PixelSkin HD case has a smooth surface on the inside and will not scratch your iPhone 4 when you put it in or take it out of the case. The exterior of the case is more matted to give you a better grip, especially on the sides of the case. On the back, the tiles have matte finish populated on a shinier background.
The tiled texture doesn?t just create a unique look but they also help absorb shock and impact force to protect the iPhone 4. Unlike the PixelSkin case that feels soft and squishy, the PixelSkin HD case feels sturdy and hard yet it has some flexibility that allows you to take the iPhone 4 in and out of the case without any struggle. The case wraps around the iPhone 4?s sides and covers the edges of the display, so if you put the phone face down on a table, the case will protect the screen from touch the surface.
The Speck PixelSkin HD case for iPhone 4 comes in five colors: black, blue, red, purple and pink.
Size and Fit
The PixelSkin HD case for iPhone 4 feels incredibly thin in hand, and adds only 0.8 oz. in weight to your phone. The case has cutouts for the charge/sync port, speaker, mic, audio out jack, camera and silence button; but hides the volume buttons and the power button under plastic. They are very functional under the cover, yet they don?t stick out so far that you might accidentally press them unless you jam the phone into very crowded space.
Speck launched the PixelSkin HD case before the Verizon version of the iPhone 4 which moved the location of the mute button. The Verizon version of the iPhone 4 still fits perfectly in the PixelSkin HD case, only now the mute button isn?t in the center of the cutout but more toward the bottom. Does the button work in this case? Absolutely. The button touches the edge of the cutout a bit, but it?s still very easy to slide the button while your Verizon iPhone 4 is in the PixelSkin HD Case.
If you are looking for a simple yet slim case that can help prevent your iPhone 4 from slipping out of your hand, the Speck PixelSkin HD case is a good candidate. It?s sturdy yet has some flexibility; it won?t lose its shape like a think silicone case would, and it comes in many colors. We tried the iPhone 4 with several docks and speakers while in this case, it fit in all of them.
